What does blood test they do in the er for suspected liver problems actually tell you? can you still have liver problems even if the tests r normal?

LFTs vs Acute Hep : Regardless of whether you're in er or doctor's office, liver function tests (lfts) are blood tests that tell us about current status/function of liver. However, these tests tell us nothing about potential liver problems from infectious hepatitis, esp b & c. You need special tests looking for that particular infection. Early in infection process, it's possible to have normal lfts yet be infected.
