If in severe pain go: For an evaluation to make sure there was not a fracture involved. If not, then it will be time, rest, activity restriction as well as otc medication as needed if no contraindications to their use.

If pain is severe: Enough, get evaluated with a physician who may obtain x-rays to r/o a fracture. If no fracture, then give it time, heat and/or ice, rest and activity restriction wihotc medication as needed if no contraindications to their use.
