A member asked:

Does the inr score scale linearly or geometrically? as in is the difference between 2.5 - 3 the same as between 3.5 - 4?

Dr. Alvin Lin answered

Geometric: Great question! inr (international normalized ratio) is ratio of patient's prothrombin time (pt) to local reference pt corrected by an exponential based upon thromboplastin used by lab to determine pt. Check out http://www.Practical-haemostasis.Com/miscellaneous/miscellaneous%20tests/isi_and_inr.Html for more info. Notice that exponential dramatically changes inr value despite same pt result.
