Depo: Depo can be very unpredictable. You should be prepared to bleed off and on for 6 mths. However, even if you have been it on for a prolonged period it can still have unpredictable bleeding. Depending on your age you may need further evaluation.

It is the depo: Bleeding often becomes irregular an prolonged on depo-provera due to thinning of the uterine lining. It might be a good idea to start oral contraceptives unless you can't remember your pills, in which case it may be better to put up with the bleeding. Another good alternative is a Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud; though bleeding can be irregular for a while with that.

Thin lining: Depoprovera freq causes no period or very light periods. If pt has been on the rx for more than 6 months, the lining of the uterus (womb) can become thin and allow small blood vessels to leak. Your provider can usually give you a short course of estrogen to stabilize the lining and fix the problem.
