I'm having my first gout flare as an active 24 y/o. i've been on indocin (indomethacin) for a week, but pain is still between a 6-8/10. should i ask for another med?

Is it really gout?: If you have involvement of the base of the great toe then the diagnosis will almost always be gout. However, if this joint has never been involved then i would see a rheumatologist. A joint can be aspirated and evaluation of the joint fluid would determine if it is gout or some other form of arthritis. If this is gout, a short course of Prednisone works well.
