Wheal and Flare: A wheal is a rounded or flat-topped, pale red papule or plaque that is characteristically evanescent (transient). This can be associated with urticaria secondary atopy/allergy, drug reaction, viral exanthem or rarely autoimmune. Rarely, there is a benign condition call dermatographia that demonstrates a similar reaction solely due to physical contact and is easily reproducible.
