Reflux: Peppermint is an old remedy for an upset stomach. You should see your doctor as this could be reflux or an ulcer. They may want to prescribe a proton-pump inhibitor which will reduce the acid production in your stomach and allow it to heal.

Unsure: Peppermint oil has been used effectively for a variety of digestive issues (flatus, nausea, vomiting, cramps, loose bowel movements, heartburn, indigestion & irritable bowel syndrome). Your doctor can help determine the accurate diagnosis.

Nocturnal pain: Upper abdominal discomfort associated with belching awakening you during the night may be caused by ulceration in the stomach or duodenum. Gall bladder or pancreatic pathology, GERD are other possibilities. I recommend consulting a gastroenterologist for evaluation. Appropriate testing will be ordered.
