Patient followup: Your disease is serious, so you are right to be concerned., however, don't worry too much. Not all mitral disease progresses to the late stages, and you may do well. May people have mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation and never even know it! just keep your follow up appointments, and always remember, if you are unhappy with your doc, get another. It is your life, after all.

Follow it closely: Follow it closely. If it becomes severe , or symptomatic ( atrial fibrillation, shortness of breath, fatigue, most common) do not hesitate to have it repaired. If you need a repair, find a surgeon that repairs >90 %, minimally invasive, and performs more than 50/year.

How much ?: This just means the mitral valve sinks backward after closing & leaks a variable amount. It could be a trivial amount, requiring only monitoring. It could be a lot, leading to a weakening of the heart and need for replacement. Some people have pain associated with this finding even with trivial leaks. Sounds like the doc is not worried, but you should clarify this with the doc.
