Auto-immune: No one really knows what is the ultimate trigger for uc. But it is an autoimmune disease and related to either alcohol or diet! alcohol and diet may make the active condition worse... But they are not the cause.

Ulcerative colitis: Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease whose cause is thought to be autoimmune. Similar to crohn's disease. Diet, alcohol and many other things are known to exacerbate its symptoms. But their use does not cause it.
