Ice might: Work better than rice. After 48 to 72 hrs heat may help. Otc the anti inflammatory like advil (ibuprofen) may be as good as narcotic after the acute injury.

Anti-inflammatories: The best way to treat pulled muscle is by rest and gentle stretch. Having said that, the first line of medications that should be tried are anti-nfalmmatory meds, i.E advil or ibuprofen. If you don't have a history of gastritis or bleeding from the stomach, you can take these medications generously, i.E 2-3 200 mg tablets, at least 2 times a day for 4-5 days.
