What narcotics are prescribed for severe headache pain?

Avoid: I would totally suggest you avoid narcotics for periodic headaches unless nothing else works, as these approaches result in rebound and more intense and frequent headaches. Rather stop headache with triptans, and prevent with rx meds or otc herbals. See your doctor and make a plan.

All sorts: But see a neurologist and perhaps it can be treated with meds that are not narcotics so won't be addictive or you will not build a tolerance.

Best Headache Meds: A 2014 study indicates that medication containing a combination of acetylsalicylic acid, (aspirin), acetaminophen(paracetamol), and caffeine is more effective than acetaminophen alone. http://thejournalofheadacheandpain.springeropen.com/articles/10.1186/1129-2377-15-76
