Depends on type: Some cancers are due to things under our control, such as excess sun exposure or smoking. We can decrease the chance of getting some types of cancers by our choices. If a cancer is already started, there can always be little pieces of it that are too small to be visible now, so you will need to check regularly with your cancer doctor who can, at least, spot a new growth as soon as possible.
