Dental degree: Dmd is doctor of dental medicine, it is synonymous to dds, doctor of dental surgery. Dmd & dds are exactly the same, unlike md & do which are different. All dental schools used to give the degree dds but some schools wanted the word medicine in the degree, so thus the birth of dmd ( & changed ). Some schools give dds & some dmd....It's al the same. Just a dentist. No better, no different.

Same as DDS: The 2 degrees offered in U.S. Dental schools is dmd ( doctor of dental medicine)or dds (doctor of dental surgery). Upon graduation from dental school one of these degrees will be presented to the doctor. There is no established difference between the two degrees. Once the dds or dmd passes their licensing boards they will be qualified to practice general dentistry.
