"Spot": Macula, which is short for macula lutea or "yellow spot", is the central portion of the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive membrane that lines the inside of your eye. The macula is the part of retina that is responsible for the majority of your vision.

Central vision: This is the central area of the retina which contains the fovea. Fine detailed vision is located within the macula as well as most color vision. When you read or recognize a face, for instance, you are using your macula. The major light receptors in this area are the cones.
