Freezing of cervix: Cryotherapy is a therapeutic modality that uses extreme cold to freeze the cervix in an effort to destroy abnormal cells. It is indiscriminate, killing normal cells along with the abnormal. The length of time it is applied determines the depth of tissue destruction. Because of its imprecision, it has largely been replaced by leep (loop electrosurgical excisional procedure).
