See below: Growth plate injury refers to damage of the epiphysis /growth center in the long bones of skeletally immature individuals. This is where active growth in the length of the bone occurs. These close once adult height is reached. Prior to closure they are at risk of injury. Injuries can range from simple irritation to complete disruption. Injury may result in early closure if not treated.

Growth plate: Physeal, or growth plate, injury involves varying degrees of damage to the ends of bones between the epiphysis and metaphysis. This is in a skeletally immature individual.

Impaired bone growth: The growth plate is where new bone is created in a developing child. The significance of injury to that area is that it can interrupt normal growth and cause to bone to be shorter or grow at an angle. If there is a growth plate injury it is important to get treatment from an orthopedic surgeon.
