What is the definition or description of: retropharyngeal abscess?

Retropharyngabscess : Fascial layers in head and neck allow muscles and soft tissue glide over each other with ease. Since these layers lay on top of each other, potential space can be created in between them. There are many potential spaces in the head and neck. Retropharyngeal space is between buccopharyngeal fascia and alar fascia. Serious infections can arise from teeth infection and travel to this space.

Throat infection: This is an infection behind the pharynx. In simples terms an infection at the back of the throat.

Throat abscess: Abscess in the posterior area of the throat.
