Nail laceration: The nail is composed of multiple parts. The nail plate is the hard part that you see and feel on the outside. Then there is the nail germinal and sterile matrix, which cause the nail to develop and give it a shiny appearance. A nail laceration can involve any and/or all of these structures. Some of these lacerations can be left alone, but some will leave nail deformities or growth difficulties.
