Thrombophlebitis: Painful veins can be the result of thrombophlebitis. This is an inflammation of your veins most likely the result of a clot. Sometimes it will progress and become infected. Using oral anti-inflammatories and warm heat packs will help alleviate the symptoms. If they persist see your physician for an evaluation.

Thrombophlebitis: Although there is a condition called thrombophlebitis that can cause painful veins, it would be quite rare for this to happen on the top (dorsum) of the hands. It could be more likely that your pain is coming from something else. I would recommend an evaluation by a health care professional to establish a diagnosis.

Swollen hand veins.: Hand veins can swell or become painful for many reasons but the most common is certainly hereditary . Other factors would be level of hydration, phlebitis, aging, sun exposure and loss of elasticity and volume. Actually, I am amazed at the amount of women that i see with bulging hand veins. They can be easily treated with laser or sclerotherapy and usually a combination of both.
