Many things...: This could be many things and i would recommend seeking complete medical evaluation to get an accurate diagnosis. Common causes of these symptoms can be shin splints, medial tibial stress syndrome, periostitis, stress reaction or fracture, or exercise-induced compartment syndrome.

See below: Because you put more pressure on the foreffot you may be rolling your foot and actually straining the leg muscles. An orthotic may be of benefit.
