Abscess vs cyst vs ?: Lipoma is benign lump of soft tissue under skin that doesn't hurt. Cyst is a collection of fluid or oil that shouldn't hurt unless it gets infected. Abscess is a collection of pus that can be quite painful. Hair follicle could get infected & swollen. Best to go see your family doc for evaluation, diagnosis & treatment.
