Many possibilities: Wow - this might be nothing, or it could be a catastrophe. Sure, that narrows it down, right? Without more information it is pointless to speculate. I suggest that if you are concerned at all about the pain you see your doctor. If you are not, just know that it could be something serious - so in the end, it is safest to get evaluated.

Have it evaluated: A person with chest pain needs to be evaluated and treated appropriately. Multiple possible causes may be: heart attack, esophageal reflux, anxiety, musculoskeletal, pneumonia, pulmonary embolus, and aortic dissection. Have it evaluated right away to prevent potential serious complications.

Multiple: Chest pain can be a symptom of heart disease but may be may other things such as esophageal spasms, great vessel disease, respiratory disorders (asthma, COPD, bronchitis, infections), and muscle problems to name a few. It really depends on the clinical situation and other symptoms you may be having.
