Use sparingly: In general cortisone injections should be used sparingly, because while they can decrease the inflammation and therefore pain associated with the plantar fascia they can also contribute to further deterioration in the plantar fascia and can cause atrophy of the plantar fat pad which can make your heal pain worse.

There is no set : Rule. There is a misconception that one should not get more than 3 injections. The reason not to get to many is to not cause skin atrophy (thinning) or rupture of the plantar fascia. In truth, if one is not better after 3 injections then likely the treatment is not working.
