Removal of vitreous : Vitrectomy is the medical name for the surgical removal of the fluid that fills the largest cavity of the interior of the eyeball, the vitreous humor. It is usually done because of bleeding, in conjunction with a repair of a retinal detachment, to repair a macular (center of retina) hole, to treat infection, or remove a layer of scar tissue from the retina, among other possible indications.
