Avoid sun exposure: Exposure to UV light is a trigger for melanin production. If you are naturally dark skinned, there may not be a healthy way to reduce the melanin production. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.

None: The body will produce all the melanin it is programmed to produce from all but the most stringent diets. No food will enhance this as the body is very efficient at doing this.

Albinism: Most forms of albinism are autosomal recessive. One must inherit one dose of the same form of albinism from each parent. If there's a question of genetic disease, get with a focused geneticist who can tell you exactly what the odds are and what you might be able to do
A 39-year-old member asked:

What would happen if someone stopped producing as much melanin as normal?

Dr. Richard Bensinger

Lighter color: Melanin is the basis for the normal color of the skin, the eye and some internal structures. Melanin production can be disturbed in portions of the skin producing a patchy lightening. It is altered as aging occurs and the hair turns grey. It is missing in albinos who have pale skin and pink eyes. Melanin is protective against uv light and is a cosmetic enhancement.

Can't : It is just your body. Going out in the sun it brings out your melanin but that is bad by causing skin cancer and premature aging.
