Tranquilizer: Any medicine that makes a person less troubled by anxiety is "anxiolytic" ("lysis" is literally a loosening). The term is traditionally used for medicines but perhaps insight / behavioral treatments for anxiety or intervening in a crazy life situation (one of a physician's most helpful procedures) can be considered anxiolytic.
