Bone on top of mouth: The hard palate is the front part of the top of your mouth. It's called the hard palate because it is lined with bone. You can see the back edge if you open your mouth wide while looking in a mirror and saw "ahhhhh...." the part that doesn't move is your hard palate, the part that moves is the beginning of your soft palate.

Roof of mouth: The hard palate is a thin, horizontally positioned bony plate of the skull, located in the roof of the mouth. It creates the arch between the upper teeth. It is formed by the palatine process of the maxilla and horizontal plate of palatine bone. The function of this structure is to separate the nasal passages from the oral cavity.

Roof of mouth: The palate froms the roof of the mouth. It is composed of two portions: the hard palate has underlying which makes is 'hard'. This is found in the portion of the upper jaw that contains the teeth. The soft palate is behind the hard palate and has no underlying bone. It is soft and movable and at the back of the soft palate is the uvula...The little 'punching bag' that hangs down at the rear.
