See details: During fetal life, there is a connection between the umbilical cord and the dome of the bladder. It usually obliterates before or soon after birth. If it remains patent, one can have leakage of urine from the umbilicus or infections of the lower midline abdominal wall. Then the patent urachus should be removed and the dome of the bladder repaired via an infraumbilical or lower midline incision.

Repair bladder: A patent urachus is a fetal remnant that results in a connection between the umbilicus and the bladder. Urine may escape from the umbilicus and lead to infection. The repair is done through the umbilicus where the urachus is removed and the dome of the bladder where connected is closed.
