What is the definition or description of: patent ductus arteriosus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fetal circulation: A PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) is simply persistent fetal circulation. Before an infant is born and is not using their lungs, this artery is a pathway that allows oxygenated blood to get to the body's tissues. After birth the artery will normally close on its own but if not it is either monitored or treated medically or with surgery.
