Test for BV: Bv does not have a single, clearly defined infectious agent. Rather, it is characterized by an imbalance of normal vaginal flora resulting in a depletion of peroxidase-producing lactobacillus spp and overgrowth by gardnerella vaginalis and other bacteria. Several studies have reported that molecular detection or quantitation of such bacteria could enhance sensitivity and/or specificity for bv.
