What is the definition or description of: luteinizing hormone?

Stimulates Ovulation: Luteinizing hormone (lh) is released by the master gland (pituitary) in the brain to cause ovulation. The egg is released from the ovary and ready to be fertilized. The ovary also then produces Progesterone to prepare the inside lining of the uterus for implantation of the fertilized egg and support it until the placenta takes over production of this vital hormone.

Pituitary hormone: Luteinizing hormone is a hormone produced by anterior pituitary gonadotroph cells. In males lh stimulates leydig cell production of testosterone. In females, a surge of lh triggers ovulation and development of the corpus luteum. Ovulation prediction kits tend to use lh as an indicator of impending ovulation.
