A type of imaging: Breast ultrasound works by sending a high frequency sound wave (which we cannot hear) by a special probe into the breast tissue. When the sound waves encounter tissues of different texture some of the waves echo back to the probe which in turn sends these echoes for processing to the machine. The machine then creates an image on its monitor. A radiologist or breast surgeon interprets the image.
