Medical system: Lap band is the trademark name of a gastric banding medical system developed by allergan, inc. Surgery involves placing the adjustable gastric banding over the upper part of the stomach, restricting food and calorie intake. Lap band surgery is mostly performed using laparoscopy and its use is restricted to patients with a bmi of over 40, or bmi of over 30 with obesity related condition.
