Small bowel: Small bowel refers to the small intestine. This is the portion of the intestine immediately after the stomach.

Intestine: Comes after the stomach, before colon; about 1"-2" diameter, can be roughly 12'-18' long, divided into 3 main sections, (duodenum, jejunum, ileum); each looks different under microscope, and somewhat specialized for digesting and absorbing nutrients; folds and villi add area stretched out 1 cell thick estimated to have surface area of a doubles tennis court-lots of reserve capacity.
