Intestine: Large bowel, or large intestine connects terminal ileum of small bowel to rectum. Begins at the ileo-cecal valve and comprises cecum, ascendind, transverse, descending and sigmoid colon. Resposible for: 1) intestinal water resorption of ingested fluids, gastric & small intestinal digestive juices. 2) transporting end products of digestion & bacterial waste to rectum for elimination.
