Cellulite: Cellulite is a surface irregularity in the skin caused by attachments between the back of the skin and the deeper muscle fascia. These attachments pull the skin. Like buttons on a throw pillow. Sometimes cellulite is solitary, and sometimes a larger area is involved. Cellulite can occur with or without weight gain. All current surface treatments are temporary. Surgery may help in selected cases.

Superficial fat: Cellulite is the deposition of fatty lobules just beneath the dermis of the skin. The lobules are separated by fibrous septations that draw downward creating a 'cobblestone' appearance in the skin. A loss of elasticity and thinning of the dermis also contribute to this appearance. The cellulaze laser has been shown to be quite effective in treating the appearance of cellulite.
