Cause anesthesia: Anesthetics's are a class of drugs which cause a reversible loss of sensation. The 2 main classes are general and local. General anesthetics cause unconsciousness and total loss of sensation. Local anesthetics cause loss of sensation to a limited area.

Anesthesia Meds: "anesthetic" is typically used to describe the medication for producing anesthesia. Anesthetics may be administered intravenously or inhaled to affect the brain thereby producing general anesthesia. Local anesthetics are injected into tissue, joints, spinal fluid, or the epidural space to numb small or large regions of the body. "anesthetic" may also refer to the process of anesthetizing a patient.
