3 losses in a row: Since spontaneous miscarriage is so common, likely 30% of all pregnancies do miscarriage, no investigation is needed unless you have 3 in a row. Should that happen, an investigation including transvaginal pelvic us along with several blood tests will be done. There are some inherited syndromes that cause recurrent pregnancy loss.

Why wait for 3?: I agree with the definition given of recurrent pregnancy loss however, depending on the personal and family history, i may offer some evaluation after the 1st loss. Pcos and thromboembolic (blood clotting) disease are treatable causes of pregnancy loss. Why wait for a 2nd or 3rd loss?
