Math!: Total cholesterol is the ldl-c (bad cholesterol) + the hdl-c (good cholesterol) + one-fifth of the triglycerides (bad fats). The total cholesterol is not nearly as important as the values for ldl-c, hdl-c and triglycerides. For most people, LDL should be under 100. Hdl should be over 45, and triglycerides should be less than 150.

Cholesterol is a Fat: Total cholesterol=concentration of all cholesterol/volume blood plasma & carried within the lipoprotein particles; complex protein particles which carry all fat molecules in the water outside cells. The lipoprotein particles have long been classified by ↓ing size/↑ing density: ULDL, VLDL, IDL, LDL, HDL. These protein particles carry triglyceride, phospholipid, cholesterol & all other fats present.
