Possible tumor: There are several things that can cause an elevation in hcg, the most common test used to document pregnancy. However, this is also elevated in some tumors. I am sure your ob/gyn will be obtaining additional studies and do addition imaging evaluation to find out why.

False positive but: If your blood pregnancy test is negative, as it should be, you are not producing hcg. With a negative result you are very unlikely to be pregnant or have a tumor producing hcg. Ectopic pregnancies can happen in this situation but are unusual. If you had other symptoms, pain, bleeding or anything else that prompted you to check it in the first place, you need to see for gyn for evaluation.
