Pregnancy and CBC: It is common for blood counts to drop during the later phases of pregnancy. As the pregnant woman retains more fluid, the blood cells get diluted to varying extents. It the counts are lower than the OB likes, they will often refer the patient to a hematologist for further evaluation.
