A member asked:

Is diahrrea a natural thing after gallbladder removal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common: About 20% of people will have diarrhea (early on) especially after eating fatty food. The gallbladder's function is to store bile and deliver it to the intestine to absorb fats. Most people w/stones have lost this storage function prior to its removal and don't miss this function. For those that do develop diarrhea, many eventually adjust or they may take bile salts by mouth to compensate.
