?sit ups: Does the lump show up when he is moving , like doing sit ups, or can you feel it when he is lying down? It may be an epigastric hernia if it is there when he lies down... If it does not bother him , he can live with it.. If it feels pinchy he needs surgery.. It is due to fat in the muscle area coming through a weak spot where a blood vessel travels.. If it is a large bulge when he does sit ups ..

Take it out: If mass is hard or growing then it should come out. If it has been there for yrs then it could be benign growth or lipoma.
