Dr. Pamela Pappas
Psychiatry 42 years experience
Yes: A personality disorder is an enduring, pervasive, and inflexible pattern of inner experience and outer behavior that differs markedly from one's culture, begins in adolescence or early adulthood, and causes distress in important areas of life (relationships, work, etc). If you have one of the 10 possible types, you are "different" in ways that cause you difficulty, rather than just individuality.

Dr. Pamela Pappas
Psychiatry 42 years experience
No such thing: There is no "dual personality disorder" in the mental health diagnostic system. However, there is a dissociative identity disorder -- where 2 or more alternate identity or personality states take control of a person. Each of these has its own characteristics, mannerisms, memories, and ways of experiencing -- and behaving in -- the world. It can follow from severe childhood trauma.

Not sure.: Everyone has a personality or traits that characterize their behavior. When the personality or traits becomes so "unusual" as to cause enduring and significant personal or social distress it crosses the line between being "normal" and being a disorder. I suppose mild means you are approaching that border.

Often times the idea is that the person is thought of as 'emotional' or 'dramatic' or 'attention seeking' in some way. We all have diff't personality traits.

Many issues in your: Personality disorders deal with the way you think, behave and react to situations which have a certain pattern. Several of these patterns make up your personality. You may be obsessive/compulsive or dependent for example then you would not fit into one category or another. It is a pattern that is excessive or no longer helping you cope in order to be considered a personality disorder.
