How do untreated cavities affect your mouth?

Untreated Cavities: Teeth destruction, also called dental caries (cavities) is due to chronic bacterial infection. Untreated dental decay may lead to loss of teeth, gum disease, absorption of jaw bone, and uncommonly abscesses around the teeth. Abscesses, while uncommon, can lead to serious infections in the neck, jaw, and may spread into the bloodstream, causing infection of heart valves. See a dentist.

They Grow: All cavities start small... 1 surface of decay. The cavity spreads which results in 2 surfaces of decay. If left untreated the decay continues to spread & becomes a 3 surface cavity. Then it moves on to a 4 surface cavity. It becomes too large to fill the decayed area & a crown is needed. Deep cavities also can lead to root canals. Best to treat the 1 surface cavity & avoid crowns & root canals.

Varies: Untreated cavities are a harbor for bacteria in your mouth. These bacteria can cause periodontal/ gum issues and can even infect your heart valves, arteries and muscle. So the longer you wait, the more possible detriment can occur.
