Not common. : Complications with a hysterectomy are not very common. However, hysterectomy is a surgical procedure and therefore has risk. You could have bleeding, infection, damage to an organ, blood clot or any number of other complications. Complication rates can be minimized by choosing a skilled and experienced surgeon. Most doctors can : Perform hysterectomy safely, but the same risks always remain: heavy blood loss that requires a blood transfusion; post operative infection ( urinary, wound, pelvic abscess, blood infection, pneumonia); damage to adjacent organs like bladder, ureters, rectum or small bowel; post operative deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolus; also anesthesia related risks and heart attack, stroke.
