Obese family members: Growing up in an obese family is a risk factor for becoming obese. First, there may be a familial genetic trait that makes a person maximize his inborn ability to store away energy as fat. Then, the family may eat too many high calorie foods or snack too often (even continuing to snack without hunger, but just out of habit). Also, the family may use food as its method of coping with stress.
