Is it safe to take actoplus while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No: We generally use Insulin in pregnancy because other medications are likely to cross the placenta. There isn't a lot of information about actoplus in pregnancy to comment otherwise. It is safe in breastfeeding. If you are on actoplus and get pregnant, don't stop until you talk to your doctor.

Yes: This combination med has two agents, metformin which is considered safe (l1) & pioglitzone which is considered relatively safe (l3) during breastfeeding. See: hale, t;medications and mothers milk, 16ed.2012.
