Does it make sense to go gluten free for thyroid problems?

May help sometimes: People who have no allergy to gluten don't benefit from a gluten-free diet. Gluten-free foods use grains such as corn, rice, and sorghum that don't have gluten, but such foods are more expensive. Healthy gluten-free foods are fine to eat, as long as they are part of a balanced diet. Some thyroid diseases may be related to celiac disease, so a doctor can check a thyroid patient for celiac disease.

No: Gluten free diets are most commonly associated with celiac sprue, which is an autoimmune disease of the small intestine where wheat gluten damages the cellular parts which contribute to absorption of nutrients. People with celiac sprue are at higher risk for developing autoimmune thyroiditis.
