Many ways.: The scope of practice of pas depends on the state and their specialty. With general practitioners, pas usually work as "extensions" of the physician - and in theory, there should be good oversight of the work done by the pa. The physician should be available to answer questions the pa might have about the clinical case. In some states the pa can work without physician collaboration or backup.

Varies: Dentists do not work with pas but from my knowledge from talking to pas, they work with the mds through direct supervision or with written standards or protocols that set out their duties and responsibilities in great detail. Different organizations or practices which use pas will approach this supervision differently. Direct consultation between the pa and md is necessary to allow the pa to work.
